Pioneer Day & Other Adventures

We have had a great time in the past month. The weather has been hot, hot, HOT, at our house, so we have used our Saturdays and weekends wisely to escape to cooler climates. Unfortunately, we don't have many pictures to show for our adventures, but we do have fun memories. We went to the top of Cedar Mountain one weekend to find it a cool 70 degrees and wonderful. Jack had fun playing at Navajo Lake and hiking in the aspen trees. Another weekend, we went to Pine Valley and enjoyed a fun picnic lunch, wading in the creek, and more hiking. Our road trips have been fun in our new car. We are finally back to two cars of our own, and love having our new 2008 Toyota RAV4.
Jack actually looked at the camara and smiled at the same time. Mark this moment. It might never happen again. All of our shots lately have been action shots. If you're not moving, you're not going to catch it on film.

For Pioneer Day, we decided to head north, and enjoyed spending the afternoon at This is the Place Monument is Salt Lake City. We completely enjoyed the Pioneer Parade, walking through lots of old houses and cabins, and feeling the pioneer spirit.

Jack's favorite part was riding the ponies. He was a little unsure of actually sitting on the pony, but he ended up loving it, and was very sad for his turn to end.

Jack is our little cowboy. We wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with a whole barn full of horses of his own someday. We are amazed at how many mornings, he wakes up saying "horsey". We have several horses in our neighborhood, so Jack makes his morning rounds to say good morning to all his horse friends.
Jack had a fun time playing in the Pioneer Playground. What a cute little train engineer!

Even in Salt Lake, it was pretty hot, so we ended our day in Pioneer Village with some yummy ice cream.
Last weekend, we went to the Lusk Family Reunion - my grandmother's family. We had such a good time. I haven't been to a reunion since I was married - let alone a mother. It was fun to introduce Bryan and Jack to more family, and spend the weekend in the mountains. Jack was as dirty as I have ever seen him. He had a great time playing "hoop" with the big kids, pouring sand over his head - and every other part of his body, getting into any and all water, and playing with kids big and small. Again, no pictures to document anything. I'm going to have to attach the camara to myself somehow.

You are so funny...mark this moment. Andy is the same way...evey shot is an action shot. I just can't believe how big Jack is getting. It looks like he had so much fun on the horses. I am so glad you all had such a good time at the reunion.

So cute! I'm truly amazed that Jack is only 1 and he's so big! He looks so grown up. I especially love the pic of him driving the train...so cute. Love those beautiful eyes. :)
